“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestine to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” Romans 8:29
This verse takes me back to the 6th day of the world when in Genesis 1:26 God said “let’s make man in our own image.” God had intended for us to be like Him from the beginning of time. Some of us may ask, “well how come all humans aren’t automatically like that from birth. Why would we need this Jesus to walk in the image and likeness of God?” Well, the answer is this, the first human beings whom God had entrusted to monitor His beautiful creations were tempted by the devil and fell so horribly. Adam and Eve’s actions brought sin into the world and led to the severance of that natural God-Human relationship that existed; the relationship in which God spoke directly to man and man to God.
Because Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they lost their direct connection with Him and qualities that made them a direct replica of God; they had become something other than creations in the image and likeness of the Almighty Creator; Master of the universe. Their actions allowed access to characteristics contrary to those of God; the fruits of the Spirit, and with that one simple action the world became polluted and no longer the same as God had envisioned it to be.
You might say “well isn’t He The Almighty? Couldn’t He have just destroyed them and started over with creating more obedient humans?” Well, He certainly could have and He did (check out the story of Noah and the Ark)! God could have continually destroyed and recreated the world, but where would that leave His loving nature and the beautiful redemption story that gives us all the ability to “come before His throne boldly and courageously” as though we were never sinners? Would it be too much to say that because Adam and Eve entertained the devil, the world became a safe place for that rebellious spirit to dwell? The righteous atmosphere became violated, and the world no longer remained a place where God could dwell, even though He wanted to continue to have a COMM-union (communication and union) with His creatures. Heartbreaking right?!
It’s amazing to me that right then and there in that moment of heartbreak, at the beginning, God intended in His heart to send to earth a part of Him, a part of the God-head, JESUS to die for the sins of the people in the world (whom he did foreknow, he also did predestined). The world that would be filled with multiple replicas of those 2 humans who initially broke His heart. He had such an unconditional love for His children! He sent a piece of Himself to earth so that we could one day have the opportunity to grow to know Him, to love, trust, and believe Him without a shadow of a doubt. To have that God-Human communion once again! (John 3:16)
The world waited for several years and is still waiting to see and accept the manifestation of His amazing love, and God patiently waited and still is. WHOA! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH MORE LORD!!
He predestined us to be called His children and be in His image. That’s what Paul understood and divulged in Romans 8:29; God purposed all along that we would be restored to our natural state of consistent and constant communion directly with Him. Not through a human high priest as was done in the days before Jesus; Jews would approach the high priest, and the high priests would then enter into the holy of holies (the most high place) since they were the only ones considered pure enough to approach God. God sent Jesus to eradicate all that ceremony; in fact, Jesus became our high priest and broke the veil by His singular act on the cross of Calvary!! WOOP!
So, if you question whether or not it’s possible for you and I to have practical and real time conversation with God know this…it is possible. After all Jesus told us “With God all things are possible.” All it really takes is God, you accepting Jesus as Lord of your life, and your devoted commitment to following His Word. What lies ahead is endless revelations. God promised in Jeremiah 33:2&3 “This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name:‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ “
God desperately wants a relationship with you! He desires you to be reconciled back to Him so He can communicate with you as He did with Adam, if not better. God yearns to show you the amazing stuff He has planned and created for you in the beginning.
Won’t you answer?
I’d like to provide an opportunity to those who are yet to meet with Jesus. If you have a deep desire to know Jesus and enter into the kingdom of God you are in great company. I did at some point in my life, and it was the greatest desire that God ever met!
I invite you to pray the sinner’s prayer: Dear Jesus, I accept that I am a sinner and I confess my sins before you. I believe that you died for my sins and rose again to give me new life. I ask that you forgive me of my sins; cleanse me with your precious blood which you shed on the cross of Calvary. I accept you as my personal Lord and Savior. Fill me up with your Holy Spirit and strengthen me. I profess that I am a new creature; old things have passed away and I have become new in You. Thank You Lord! In Jesus name, AMEN!
If you prayed the prayer, WELCOME TO THE KINGDOM FAMILY!! Be sure to find a bible believing, Spirit led church in your city and purchase a bible in a version that you understand. I use the New Living Translation, Message, or the New International Version. Enjoy the journey!
